Gil the Phish and NCSAM Happenings

National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) is about halfway over, and we’ve been having a great time spreading the word about digital security across our campus. We kicked off the month with a successful Shred IT event, and on October 14, we participated in Danforth Health Happening. Our presence at Health Happening was hard to miss, with CISO Kevin Hardcastle appearing undercover as “Gil” our new phishing mascot. We’ll all be seeing more of Gil over the coming months as we work to enhance awareness of phishing within our community.

Upcoming events include a talk on “Topics in Security: A Round-Up of Incidents at WashU” by information security manager, Brian Allen. The talk is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23, from 11 am to 12 pm in Moore Auditorium on the WUSM campus. Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP (via Eventbrite) here.

On October 29 from 11 am to 12 pm, WashU CISO, Kevin Hardcastle and BJC CISO, Matthew Modica will share their insights during the Healthcare CISO Fireside Chat in EPNEC Seminar B on the WUSM campus. Snacks and refreshments will be provided, but space will be limited for this event. Please RSVP (via Eventbrite) to reserve your spot at the Healthcare CISO Fireside Chat!

Also at the end of the October, we will run an event focused on workspace cleanup and security. During this event, participants will have a chance to win some great prizes, including PacSafe bags provided by our partners at WUSM Protective Services. Stay tuned for more details!

There are not currently any upcoming events scheduled. Please check back for new events to be added.
