The OIS is always looking for ways to improve your security and reward your participation in our efforts. This month, we’d like to cover a phishing tactic that uses your phone as a medium for scammers. This scam is called ‘Vishing.’
Vishing
Cybercriminals are continuously looking for new and unexpected ways to contact you. While you may be familiar with phishing via email, voice phishing, or vishing, can be harder to recognize because of its urgent and immediate nature. With this scam, a bad actor will get you on the phone, pretending to be from your bank, the IRS, or even WashU, and trick you into revealing private information, buying gift cards, or making other purchases. In this training, you will hear a story from a victim of a vishing scam. After hearing their story, you will be better equipped to identify and protect yourself from these scams.
This month’s competition features training from our KnowBe4 platform, which can be found on one.wustl.edu. Navigate to the Training tab to complete the training titled “Confessions of a Vishing Victim.”
Once you complete the training, you will automatically be entered into this month’s prize drawing.
